External Funding Opportunities
Pre-Award Support for External Opportunities
We provide free comprehensive pre-award support services for large team science applications, CCSG administrative and diversity supplements, and other large grants related to cancer research. We also provide support for smaller grants such as NIH R mechanisms and foundation grants when capacity allows. Services include reviewing guidelines, creating checklists, templates, and timelines, drafting budgets and budget justifications, editing, proofing, gathering biosketches, letters of support, and other documents, developing application packages, and working with the UCLA Office of Contracts & Grants Administration (OCGA) to submit to the sponsor.
If you have identified an external opportunity that is cancer-relevant and want to know if we can provide pre-award support for your grant application, please contact Amanda Tan

Limited Submission Opportunities
The Research Administration Unit manages cancer-relevant Limited Submission Opportunities (LSOs). LSOs are funding opportunities in which UCLA is invited to submit a set number of nominees to apply per opportunity. Cancer-relevant LSOs go through an internal review process at the UCLA Health JCCC to select the final applicant(s).
Visit for more information on available LSO opportunities. Please note that non-cancer LSOs are managed by the central LSO Office at UCLA. Visit the RAU's FAQ for more information on Limited Submission Opportunities.

Any cancer-relevant National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supplement opportunities that are responsive to the P30 mechanism and are limited to a set number of applicants per institution are managed by the UCLA Health JCCC as LSOs. Selected applicants are then assigned to a team member of the UCLA Health JCCC Research Administration Unit. The team member provides comprehensive pre-award support services and works with the applicant and OCGA to submit the supplement. Visit our FAQ page for more information.
Process
Administrative Supplements to the Cancer Center Support Grant allow investigators the opportunity to receive funding to conduct special interest projects. The Research Administration Unit will send out notices of funding opportunities from the NIH to UCLA Health JCCC members throughout the year, and anyone can apply through our internal competition. If interested in applying, investigators will need to respond to our email or LSO announcement by the designated due date with a one-page research summary that relates to the specific funding announcement, alongside their NIH biosketch. Once our internal review is complete, the selected applicant will be invited to submit a full application. The Research Administration Unit supports Investigators and their fund managers by providing them with a submission timeline and a list of required proposal documents and information. The Research Administration Unit assists with assembling the application, preparing the EPASS, and routing to OCGA for submission.
